Bhubaneswar: An employee of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar was allegedly shot dead by his cousin in Ranasinghpur area under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar on Monday morning over an ancestral property dispute.
The deceased has been identified as Sudhanshu Khuntia (27), a lab assistant who resided in Sarkhanta village on the outskirts of the city.
According to sources, the incident took place when Sudhanshu was on his way to work at around 8 am. The
assailant reportedly came on a scooter and fired three rounds at him. He lost control over his motorcycle afer being shot in the lower left chest and crash to the ground. He was rushed to AIIMS in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.
Tension escalated in the area as Sudhanshu’s brother allegedly assaulted someone, whom he suspected to be behind the shooting incident.
Later speaking to media, Commissioner of Police (CP), Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Commissionerate Police, Suresh Dev Dutta Singh said that the accused family members have been detained, and further investigation is underway.
Khandagiri police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby roads to identify all the culprits.
