Balasore: A day after an undertrial prisoner escaped from Soro sub-jail in Balasore district, the Director General (Prisons) Susanta Kumar Nath on Wednesday suspended two warders for dereliction of duty.
Nath confirmed that the suspension was based on initial findings and ordered Additional DG Amitabh Thakur to conduct a detailed probe into the incident, along with two senior superintendents of jail.
The prisoner, identified as Deepak Ray (30) from Dhanbad in Jharkhand, was lodged in the jail after being arrested for theft on October 19. He fled from Ward No. 4 of the jail by scaling the prison wall using blankets, on Tuesday.
According to sub-jailer Bailochan Das, the jailbreak was detected when one prisoner was found missing during the roll call after dinner.
Soro sub-jail, housing around 250 inmates, is managed by only three security staff members.
This was the second jailbreak incident in the state within a month. Earlier, on October 2, two undertrial prisoners, hailing from Bihar, had also escaped from the high-security Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack district amid Dussehra celebrations.
Meanwhile, DIG (Prison) Cuttack Range, Anushaya Jena, visited Choudwar Circle Jail to probe the previous jailbreak and reports of inmate clashes. An undertrial prisoner had sustained grievous head injuries after another inmate hit him with a steel plate following an argument on Monday morning.
