Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on October 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
“The upper air cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea & neighbourhood lay over southeast Bay of Bengal adjoining South Andaman sea. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on October 24.”
It further stated that the system may move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours.
FORECAST FOR ODISHA
Under its influence, Odisha may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) in Odisha during the next 5 days.
The weather agency has warned of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph lin the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Nayagarh on October 23-24.
Similar weather conditions may prevail in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on October 25-26.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on October 27.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is also likely at a few places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj during this period.
Though there is no further weather warning, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may occur at a few places across the state during the next five days.
OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south interior Karnataka has moved westnorthwestwards and is currently over south interior Karnataka & neighbourhood. It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across south Karnataka and emerge over eastcentral & adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours.
The Depression over southeast Arabian Sea has also moved slowly northeastwards, about 560 km west-southwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep) and 910 km southwest of Panjim (Goa). It is likely to move nearly north-northeastwards across southeast Arabian Sea towards eastcentral Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours.
The IMD further stated that a fresh Western disturbance is likely to impact Western Himalayan Region from October 27.
