Cuttack: Tension erupted during Goddess Kali idol immersion procession in Odisha’s Cuttack on Friday, creating a chaotic situation near Chandini Chowk area of the city
As per information, skirmishes surfaced when the Bakharabad Medha was proceeding towards the immersion site. The situation was reportedly brought under control before any escalation.
The disturbance reportedly began following allegations of assault by police, sparking outrage among locals and participants. As a result, the Bakharabad tableau procession was stopped midway, creating massive traffic congestion and panic in the area.
While police are yet to share information about the incident, security forces have been deployed in strength to prevent any further escalation and to maintain order in the area.
In order to ensure a smooth and safe immersion, the Commissionerate Polce made elaborate security arrangements. Heavy police deployment has been made in place across key routes, with personnel monitoring the procession from narrow lanes to major intersections.
Over 50 platoons of security forces have been deployed to maintain peace and order during the festivities. Drones and CCTV cameras are also deployed to monitor the situation.
