Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission has suspended an Odisha Information Service (OIS) Officer, Tanuja Mohanty, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct, which is in force for the high-stakes by-election to the Nuapada Assembly constituency.
“In pursuance of clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 12 of the Orissa Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962, pending drawal of disciplinary proceeding. Smt. Tanuja Mohanty, OIS-II is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect on the ground of violation of enforced Model Code of Conduct for Bye- Election -2025 to 71-Nuapada Assembly Constituency”, read the notification.
Mohanty will be based at the state headquarters in Bhubaneswar during the suspension period. She has been instructed not to leave headquarters without prior permission from the competent authority and must report daily to the Director (Technical), I&PR Department.
The Opposition BJD had accused her of violating the model code by sharing information related to the BJP.
A total of 14 candidates, including eight Independents, are in the fray for the bypoll scheduled for November 11.
