Jharsuguda: In a shocking incident, a newborn girl was found abandoned in a forest in Bagdehi area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Monday.
According to sources, the baby was spotted and rescued by a panchayat executive officer (PEO), who handed over the newborn to the police.
Efforts are on to ascertain the circumstances in which the newborn was dumped in the forest. Identities of the baby’s parents are not known.
Sources said he PEO of Jharmunda was travelling on the route along Kadobahal forest in Bagdehi when he heard cries of a baby. Upon looking everywhere, he came across the newborn girl wrapped in a bundle of clothes, abandoned near a heap of stones.
The baby was rescued and handed over to the police at Bagdehi outpost by the PEO. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was subsequently informed and a team took over the case. The baby is currently recuperating in a hospital and her health condition is stable, official sources said.
An investigation has been initiated to trace the parents of the baby and ascertain the circumstances in which she was dumped inside the forest.
