Bhubaneswar: Cold wave prevailed in Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda and Phulbani in the last 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Jharsuguda at 10°C saw a sharp drop of 6.7°C from normal, followed by Phulbani which saw second major drop of 5°C to record a night temperature of 8.2°C. Bhubaneswar at 14.8°C was 4.6 notches below normal. The neighbouring Cuttack also recorded 14.8°C, 3.9°C below normal. Titlagarh in Balangir at 14.5°C was the other place where the night-time reading was 4.2°C from normal.
The night temperature dropped below 8°C in the hill stations of Kandhamal and Koraput districts. Semiliguda in Koraput was the coldest in the state at 6.3°C, followed by G Udayagiri at 7°C and Daringbadi at 7.5°C.
“North Interior Odisha saw marked below normal of about 6-7°C. The night temperature was appreciably below normal by about 4-5°C at many places in coastal Odisha and at a few places in the interior districts of the state,” it further stated.
While there is no further cold wave warning, the IMD on Friday predicted a rise in the night temperature by 2-3°C after three days.
