New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and all members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the unprecedented win in Bihar.
The electorate voted on the NDA’s “track record”, the PM, who made several appearances in Bihar, either virtually or in person before the polls, said.
“The NDA has ensured all-round development of the state. The people have given us a massive majority after witnessing our track record and our vision to take the state to new heights. I heartily congratulate Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji and our NDA family allies Chirag Paswan ji, Jitan Ram Manjhi ji, and Upendra Kushwaha ji for this resounding victory,” Modi posted on X.
Its been nearly 10 hours since counting began for the 243-member Bihar Assembly. The NDA stands pretty with wins or leads in 203 seats. The BJP has won or is leading in 92 seats, while Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) is ahead in 83.
Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas or LJP(RV) has won or is leading in 19 seats. While Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM has a score of five. The RLM is also leading in four seats.
On the other hand, the Mahagathbandhan is struggling to reach the figure of 40. While the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is leading at 26 seats, the Congress is ahead in five. The CPI(ML) has a lead in two seats and CPM in one.
Political strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party failed to get close to even one win, despite claims of being a viable alternative.
While Nitish has thanked the Prime Minister and praised the NDA’s unity, Union home minister Amit Shah hailed the SIR process ahead of the voting in Bihar, calling it a “purification of the voter list”.
The NDA alliance had displayed complete unity in the election and secured a sweeping majority, he said expressing his gratitude to all NDA allies – Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha – for the victory. According to him, with everyone’s cooperation, Bihar would continue to progress and would soon be counted among the most developed states in the country.
“The people of Bihar have conveyed the mood of the entire country that the purification of the voter list is mandatory and there is no place for politics against it. That is why, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress has today reached the last rung in Bihar,” Shah said.
