Bhubaneswar: The Tropical Depression Senyar is expected to re-intensify again into a tropical storm within 24 hours, senior meteorologist Umasankar Das said in a post on X on Friday, quoting the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

“After forming in the Strait of Malacca in the North Indian Ocean (NIO) basin, Cyclone Senyar made a historic landfall in northeast Indonesia, re-emerging again in the Strait of Malacca and made another landfall in the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia —crossing the Western Pacific (WPAC) basin,” he noted.

The India Meteorological Department, in its last bulletin on this system, said that Depression [Remnant of Cyclonic Storm ‘Senyar’] over the Strait of Malacca has weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area at 11.30 pm on Thursday and moved away from the region at 5.30 am on Friday. The system is likely to move eastwards and gradually dissipate over the next 12 hours, it added.

Meanwhile, Cyclonic Storm Ditwah, currently over coastal Sri Lanka and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, is moving north-northwest at 10 kmph. It was about about 40 km southwest of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 100 km northwest of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 320km south-southeast of Karaikal (India), 430 km south-southeast of Puducherry(India) and 530 km south of Chennai (India) at 8.30 am.

“It is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards across SriLanka coast & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and reach over southwestBay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by early morning of November 30,” the Met office said.

Under its influence, Tamil Nadu is likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rain till November 30. Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema could also experience extremely heavy rainfall on November 30. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may also occur in these regions from November 28-December 2.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely Kerala & Mahe on November 28-29, over Telangana on November 30 and December 1 and over South Interior Karnataka on November 29.

Gusty wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph may prevail over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on November 28-29, it added.
