Ratlam: A 13-year-old Class 8 student — a national-level skater — in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, is recovering in a private hospital after he jumped from the third floor of his school building on Friday morning.

The incident began when the school discovered that the boy had brought his mobile phone on campus on Thursday. He reportedly recorded a video in class and uploaded it to social media — a breach of the school’s rules prohibiting phones.

“Said sorry 52 times…”

On Friday, the school had called both the student and his parents for a meeting. CCTV footage — now under investigation — shows the boy entering the principal’s office, where over about four minutes, he repeatedly said “sorry” 52 times. According to what has emerged, during the meeting, the principal allegedly threatened to “end his career,” suspend him, and take away his medals. Deeply upset by these remarks, the boy later ran out of the office, darted through a corridor, and jumped from the third floor.

Ratlam, MP: 13-year-old Class 8 national skater boy jumped from third floor of school building after scolding.

As per family and CCTV footage, he apologised 52 times in 4 minutes for bringing phone, principal threatened suspension and medal removal.

At that moment, the boy’s father — Pritam Katara — was waiting in the school premises, unaware that the tragedy was unfolding above. He said that he was summoned to meet his son; when he arrived, he was told that the boy had fallen. He learned shortly after that his son was being rushed to hospital. The boy has represented at the national level in skating, twice so far.

Condition & Official Response

The student was first admitted with serious injuries, but hospital sources later said his condition has stabilised.

Officials have confirmed that carrying mobile phones to school is against the institution’s regulations — even teachers’ phones are reportedly confiscated on entry. The incident has nonetheless triggered an official probe.

A senior school official, Archie Harit (SDM), said that while the student had breached the rules by bringing the phone, the situation escalated violently and unexpectedly.

The District Education Office, Ratlam has written to the police to carry out a full investigation. Family members are demanding accountability and action against the school administration for the way the situation was handled.
