Bhubaneswar: The night temperature across Odisha is expected to drop by 2–4°C during the next three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The mercury levels in the state capital, which recorded a night temperature of 20°C this morning, almost 4 degrees more than normal, may drop to 13°C by December 5. Similarly, Cuttack may also record 14°C during the next seven days.
Jharsuguda was the only place in the state to record below normal temperature of 11.5°C in the last 24 hours. Dense fog also occurred in Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Sundargarh districts, and shallow to moderate fog in Sonepur and Jharsuguda.
Dense fog warning continues for one or two places in the districts of Koraput, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Jharsuguda till December 4 morning.
Meanwhile, the Depression (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah) persisted over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of westcentral Bay of Bengal, North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & South Andhra Pradesh coasts. The minimum distance of the centre of the Depression from north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts was about 25 km at 8.30 am.
“The system is likely to continue to move slowly southwestwards towards the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts and maintain its intensity of depression till evening. Thereafter, it is very likely to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the subsequent 12 hours while moving towards the coast,” it added.
Under the influence of the system, several districts in Odisha – Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Koraput, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Sundargarh – experience light rain on Monday.
