Cuttack: Offline ticket sales for the India vs South Africa T20 match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack started at 10 am on Friday.
According to sources, hundreds of cricket enthusiasts, mostly youngsters, started gathering well before dawn, forming endless queues that snaked around the stadium. The crowd kept growing through the night despite the cold as people pushed and jostled for position, anxiously waiting for the barricades to open. Many among them had travelled long distances from remote areas and even neighbouring states to buy tickets for the T20 match scheduled for December 9.
The offline sale of tickets will continue for two days – December 5-6. While high-value tickets are being sold at counter 1 near Horse Gate, general tickets are available at counter 2, 3 near Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall of the Odisha Cricket Academy.
Steel barricades have been placed in a serpentine pattern, nearly 800 metres from the ticket counters to manage long queues with separate exit routes to maintain unidirectional flow and avoid bottlenecks. A dedicated counter has been arranged exclusively for women to ensure smoother access.
Police in plain-clothes have also been deployed around ticket counters and major access roads to prevent scalping and illegal ticket resale. The whole ticketing zone will be under CCTV surveillance for transparency and quick response to incidents of black-marketing or forced crowding.
One person is allowed to buy 2 tickets by producing a valid ID. The minimum price of tickets is Rs 900, while an entry into Corporate Box will cost Rs 20,000.
