Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman and her husband were killed after their scooter was hit by a bike on Berhampur-Digapahandi road in Odisha’s Ganjam district. Their two-year-old son sustained injuries in the mishap.
The deceased have been identified as Pratap Mallick and his eight-month pregnant wife Lalita Mallick (30) of Dhepaguda village of Gangapur panchayat under Sanakhemundi block.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place Friday evening when the two along with their two-year-old son were returning home on a scooter after consulting doctors at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
As they were proceeding, a bike coming from the opposite direction dashed against their scooter near Ganianala Square on Berhampur-Digapahandi road.
The couple, the child and the biker, identified as Sunil Dalai (36) of R. Udayagiri in Gajapati district, were critically injured in the collision.
Local residents and Fire Service personnel rescued the three and rushed them to the community Health centre (CHC) at Digapahandi, where the couple was declared dead. The injured biker and the child were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
