Bhubaneswar: Cold wave conditions are likely to persist in Odisha till December 13 morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
Warning has been issued for districts of Sundargarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jaipur, Khurda, Nabarangpur, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Boudh and Kandhamal till December 11 morning. Cold wave may continue to sweep isolated pockets in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul and Dhenkanal districts during the subsequent 24 hours, and Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Angul till December 13 morning.
There is also a dense fog warning for Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Kalahandi and Jharsuguda till December 12 morning. The night temperature is unlikely to witness any large change during the next 6-7 days, it added.
According to the weather agency, severe cold wave condition prevailed at one or two places in Jharsuguda districts during the last 24 hours. The minimum temperature in the western Odisha town plummeted to 7°C, which was 6.6°C below normal.
Angul, which was also in the grip of cold wave, recorded 9°C, 5.2°C less compared to normal.
G Udayagiri in Kandhamal and Semiliguda in Koraput were the coldest places in the state at 5°C, followed by Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, at 6.2°C. The other places, where the mercury hovered around 10°C and below, include Chiplima in Bargarh (7.6°C), Kirei in Sundargarh (8.1°C), Bhawanipatna (8.8°C), Daringbadi and Nabarangpur at 9°C each, Rourkela (9.1°C), Sundargarh (9.2°C) and Balangir (10°C).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13°C and 12.6°C respectively.
