Mathura: At least four people were killed and several others injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the Delhi-Agra Expressway, near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, early on Tuesday.
According to the police, seven buses and three cars collided due to poor visibility because of dense fog. Several passengers were trapped inside buses that caught fire after the collision. buses
“The accident took place at Milestone 127 on the Agra-Noida lane of the expressway. There was a collision of three cars, after which seven buses collided with them, of which 1 is a roadway bus, and the other six are sleeper buses,” SP Mathura Rural, Suresh Chandra Rawat, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Eleven fire tenders are at the spot and the fire has been brought under control, Rawat said. Rescue teams are also at work.
“Four bodies have been recovered so far. Rescue work is underway,” the SP said.
The accident occurred around 4 am, an eyewitness told ANI. As many as 3-4 buses caught fire, he said. People were asleep when the accident occurred.
“I was sleeping when the accident occurred. The bus was fully occupied. All the seats were full,” he said.
According to Shlok Kumar, SSP, Mathura, 25 people have been admitted to hospital and their condition is stable.
Rawat said that there was a collision between three cars, after which seven buses rammed into them.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the road accident in Mathura district and expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. The CM has instructed all agencies and officials to expedite relief efforts. He has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
