Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police on Thursday placed the brutal rape and murder case involving a ten-year-old girl in Chandbali area of Bhadrak district in ‘Red Flag’ category.
Sharing this information, Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania said it will ensure expeditious investigation of the case through proper monitoring.
Noting that the prime accused was arrested from Jagatsinghpur district within 12 hours of the crime, the DGP said the aim now is to speed up and complete the investigation at the earliest. He expressed hope that the district police would conduct a thorough probe and ensure that justice is delivered swiftly.
It may be noted that the minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered and her blood-soaked body recovered on Tuesday evening from near the Baligaon Panchayat office under the jurisdiction of Chandbali police station in Bhadrak district. Following the recovery of the body, police launched a search operation based on preliminary findings and subsequently arrested the main accused.
Following the incident, administrative action has also been initiated. The district administration has reportedly evicted illegal encroachments at the site where the crime occurred.
Angry over the incident, locals blocked several roads and women in Rampalli village ransacked the accused’s house. Agitated local residents also broke the lock of the panchayat office and staged a protest, demanding strict action and justice for the victim.
Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced ex-gratia assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the victim’s family. The state government has assured all necessary support to the family and reiterated its commitment to ensuring strict punishment for those involved in crimes against women and children.
