New Delhi: In a major law-and-order operation ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Delhi Police carried out a large-scale crackdown under “Operation Aaghat 3.0,” resulting in the arrest of 285 people and the seizure of illegal pistols and other contraband, officials said, as quoted by ANI.
Arrests and detentions
285 persons were formally arrested under various laws, including the Excise Act, NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, and the Gambling Act, police said.
As part of preventive action, a total of 1,306 individuals were rounded up, including more than 500 detained to avert potential offences during holiday gatherings.
Among those taken into custody were 116 individuals identified as having a “bad character.”
Seizures: Weapons, Liquor, Drugs and More
Law enforcement officials reported multiple seizures during the raids:
21 country-made pistols and 20 live cartridges were recovered.
27 knives were seized.
About 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor were confiscated.
6 kg of ganja (cannabis) was also recovered.
Police recovered 310 mobile phones, mostly stolen, and seized 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler.
Cash of Rs 2,30,990 was picked up from suspected gambling activities.
Additionally, 10 property offenders and five auto-lifters were arrested during the operation, highlighting efforts to suppress organised criminal activity ahead of the year-end festivities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Hemant Tiwari, as quoted by Hindustan Times, described the drive as a comprehensive step to bolster public security and deter organised crime during a period of increased social activity and gatherings.
