Bhubaneswar: Odia Music composer Abhijit Majumdar is likely to be discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar in a day or two, hospital authorities said on Wednesday.
The decision was taken in view of the gradual improvement of health conditions of 54-year-old Majumdar. The Odia music director was admitted to the premier medical institute in a comatose state in September this year and was undergoing treatment for multiple conditions.
Though doctors admitted a full recovery will take time, he is stable and out of danger at the moment. He is receiving treatment for multiple health conditions including chronic liver disease, neurological ailment and high blood pressure, among others.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas, who has been overseeing Majumdar’s treatment, confirmed that the composer’s condition has improved steadily over the past few weeks. Hospital sources said he has since been removed from ventilator assistance and has shown signs of neurological improvement. Doctors remain cautious about the pace of his overall recovery since he is weak because of a long period of hospitalisation.
Providing an update on his health status, Dr Biswas said the medical team is preparing for his discharge in the coming days. “We are planning to discharge him within a day or two. He is not fully aware. The damage from serious injuries, including neurological involving parts of the brain and other body organs, has shown improvement,” he said. He added that most of Majumdar’s vital organs are now functioning. “Almost all his organs are functioning, though it will take time for him to recover fully. We cannot say for certain how long complete recovery will take, but he is slowly improving and is now out of danger,” Dr Biswas surmised.
Majumdar was admitted to the emergency department of AIIMS Bhubaneswar on September 4 in a critical state. At the time of admission, he was placed on ventilator support due to the severity of his condition. Majumdar, who composed music for numerous blockbuster Odia films, enjoys a massive fan following across the state. His popular works include Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan, and Sriman Surdas.
