The decision has been taken as part a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of the students, a school official said.

A notice, issued by principal of JNV Khurda Kabita Kar stated that a few cases of jaundice had been reported among students residing on campus. Acting on the advice of the Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Headquarters, Noida, the school administration decided to suspend residential activities and allow students to return home until January 14, 2026.

“On the advice of the Commissioner, NVS, HQ, Noida, and as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, the school has decided to send students home temporarily till January 14, 2026,” the notice said.

The school has been closed to prevent the possible spread of infection and allow time for proper sanitation, medical review and monitoring of students’ health. The school authorities have advised the parents to observe their children closely for any symptoms.

It may be noted that around 70 of the over 560 students at the residential school have been affected by jaundice. However, the school authorities claimed that a few cases of jaundice have been detected among the students.

Officials of the Health Department visited the residential school and collected samples from the students. A team from the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) also rushed to the school and inspected the water supply.

It has been clarified that students of Class X and XII will report back to the school campus on January 14. Class XII students are scheduled to appear for their Physics practical examination on January 15, as planned.
