New Delhi: For the first time, the Union Budget will be presented on a Sunday.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday announced that February 1 (Sunday) will be Budget 2026 day.
This will be Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s ninth Budget presentation, one short of former Finance Minister Late Morarji Desai’s record of 10.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier declared the schedule for Parliament’s Budget Session, to be held in two phases — between January 28 and April 2. The first phase will conclude on February 13 before the House reconvenes on March 9, allowing time for the scrutiny of Budget proposals by parliamentary committees.
On the opening day of the Budget session, President Droupadi Murmu will address Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members assembled in the Lok Sabha chamber.
Sitharaman is likely to present the Economic Survey in both Houses of Parliament after the President’s address.
