Balangir: An eight-year-old boy from Shagadghat village in Odisha’s Balangir district lost vision in one eye after a toy found inside a puffcorn packet exploded.
The child, identified as Ankesh Harpal, had purchased the snack from a local shop on Sunday and later threw the toy into a fire, which suddenly burst. The explosion caused severe burns to the Class III student’s face and damaged one of his eyes.
His parents Laba and Draupadi rushed him to Sub-Divisional Hospital at Titilagarh, where doctors confirmed the damage was irreversible. This shocking incident in Balangir underscores the dangers of unsafe promotional toys in snack packets.
Following the incident, the boy’s parents Laba Harpal and Draupadi have filed a written complaint at Titilagarh police station. They alleged negligence on the part of the snack manufacturer for including a dangerous toy in the packet. Police have begun investigating the matter.
