Sundargarh: An elderly woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Thursday in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, sparking shock and concern among locals.
The victim, identified as Gurubari Majhi of Amlipali, was found in a field near a pond between Gaudapada and Amlipali this morning. It is being suspected that she was bludgeoned to death with a stone, as her body bore severe head injuries.
According to sources, Gurubari had left her rented home around 5 pm on Wednesday, informing her companion Gopal Lakra that she was going to her nephew’s house to ask for money. Later that evening, villagers spotted her wandering in the area in an intoxicated state. When she did not return home, Lakra went looking for her but in vain.
The following morning, villagers heading to the fields noticed her lifeless body and immediately alerted police.
Following which, Superintendent of Police (SP), Additional SP, and SDPO rushed to the scene and seized the body for postmortem. The area was also cordoned off as forensic teams collected evidence. While police have not yet named any suspects, they are pursuing multiple leads. Possible financial disputes or personal enmity are being probed. Statements from locals and associates are also being recorded to trace the perpetrator.
