Sundargarh: Around 12 people, including four police personnel, were injured during a violent group clash in Sundargarh of Odisha on Thursday, triggering tension in the town.
In view of palpable tension in the area following the clash between two groups, the authorities imposed prohibitory orders and deployed police personnel in strength in order to maintain peace and restore normalcy.
Sources said the clash broke out over a quarrel near Regent Market under the jurisdiction of Sundargarh Town Police Station at around 11 am. The situation escalated quickly, with members of both groups resorting to stone-pelting. Sticks and swords were also reported to have been used by some people during the violent incident.
Following the clash, police personnel rushed to the spot to restore order and maintain peace. Several police personnel were also injured in the violence. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As a precautionary measure, police personnel remained deployed to prevent any further flare up. The administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the Regent Market area.
Senior officials of the district administration and police visited the spot to take stock of the situation. The authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.
The officials have appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours, and cooperate with the administration to restore normalcy.
