Bhubaneswar: TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has set up live display arrangements of smart meters and conventional meters at 20 Customer Care Centres (CCCs), where consumers can view and compare the functioning of the two meters side by side.

TPCODL, which serves central Odisha, reiterated that smart meters being deployed across its distribution area function on the same principles as conventional meters and record electricity consumption with the same accuracy.

TPCODL emphasised that smart meters don’t alter or inflate electricity consumption and that there is no difference in the way electricity usage is measured by smart meters as compared to conventional meters. As earlier, billing is based strictly on actual consumption recorded by the meter, supported by automated checks and validation processes.

To maintain transparency and consumer confidence, TPCODL has invited customers, resident welfare associations and members of the media to visit the designated CCCs and observe meter readings, displayed parameters and consumption behaviour in real time.

TPCODL also assured that every smart meter installed at any premises undergoes five layers of mandatory testing to ensure accuracy, safety and reliability before installation. These meters are manufactured and calibrated by reputed manufacturers in accordance with applicable Indian Standards and are tested on fully automated test benches at NABL-accredited laboratories of electricity distribution companies.

The five layers include Accuracy Test, No-Load Test, Meter Constant Test, Display Test and Communication Test, which ensure precise measurement of electricity consumption, correct meter functioning and reliable data communication.

For details on the nearest Customer Care Centre and support information, customers may visit their nearest division office between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm from Monday to Friday:
