Mohali: Punjabi and Bollywood singer B Praak reportedly lodged a police complaint, alleging that he had received death threats from unidentified callers, who claimed to be members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, police said on Saturday, according to reports. The callers demanded Rs 10 crore from him, the singer alleged, as reported by Telegraph.
According to the complaint filed with Mohali police, the threatening calls and a voice message were directed not to B Praak himself but to his close associate, singer Dilnoor. Dilnoor received two missed calls on January 5 and then answered a suspicious call from an overseas number on January 6, which he immediately disconnected before later receiving the voice message.
In the audio message, the caller identified himself as Arju Bishnoi, claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and demanded Rs 10 crore on behalf of B Praak. The message warned that B Praak and those associated with him would face serious harm if the money was not paid within one week. “Pass this message to B Praak that we want 10 crore… you have one week’s time; go to any country you want, but if anyone associated with him is found nearby, we will cause damage,” the caller said, adding that they would “reduce him to dust” if the demand was not met, as quoted by Telegraph.
Following the threat, Dilnoor lodged a written complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, on January 6, prompting police to launch an investigation to trace the origin of the calls and verify the caller’s identity.
B Praak is a well-known figure in the Indian music industry, with numerous hit songs in both Punjabi and Bollywood music.
Authorities noted the incident comes against the backdrop of a series of violent episodes linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, including reported firing outside residences and businesses in parts of Delhi in recent weeks.
