New Delhi: With Republic Day round the corner, India’s enemies seem to be hyper-active to try and disturb peace in the country.

Intelligence agencies have issued alerts warning of potential terror threats in Delhi and other cities in north India ahead of Republic Day on January 26.

“Ahead of 26 January, intelligence agencies have issued an alert warning that Khalistani terrorist organisations and Bangladesh-based terror outfits may attempt to target Delhi and several other cities across the country,” ANI quoted intelligence sources as saying.

The alert points to growing activity among Punjab-based gangsters. They are “increasingly acting as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers operating from abroad. These handlers are allegedly using criminal networks to further their agendas and disrupt internal security,” said the sources.

These gangsters are reportedly active across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and are “gradually establishing links with Khalistani terrorist elements.”

With the Red Fort suicide car blast, and discovery of a white-collar terror module fresh in memory, security has been heightened in the national Capital.

North District Police conducted mock drills at vulnerable locations in Delhi, including Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar and key Metro stations, to test preparedness and response times ahead of the Republic Day parade.
