Bhubaneswar: After a long spell of intense cold wave, Odisha has witnessed a rise in the night temperature over the last 24 hours. The mercury levels are likely to rise further by 2-3°C during the next 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.

There was an appreciable rise in the minimum temperature by around 2-3°C at one or two places in South Interior Odisha. “It appreciably below normal by about 3-5°C at a few places in South Coastal Odisha and North Odisha, below normal by around 2-3°C at many places in South Coastal Odisha, at a few places in North Coastal Odisha and South Interior Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha,” it said.

G Udayagiri, the hill station in Kandhamal district, was the coldest place in the state this morning at 3.2°C, compared to 2.8°C the previous day. Semiliguda in Koraput was close second at 5.7°C, followed by Phulbani at 6.8°C, Rourkela at 7.5°C, Jharsuguda at 8.4°C, Kirei in Sundargarh at 8.5°C, Keonjhar at 9.5°C and Angul at 9.6°C.

The mercury dropped by more than 4°C from normal in Jharsuguda and Angul. Similarly, Bhubaneswar recorded 11.6°C, 3.9°C below normal. Cuttack at 11.4°C was 3°C from normal.

According to the weather agency, there is no cold wave warning till almost the end of this month. Shallow to moderate fog may occur in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati till January 21 morning, and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh during the subsequent three days.
