New Delhi: The parade on Kartavya Path on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day will be a first after Operation Sindoor and is set to shift from traditional motionless displays to a battle‑sequence narrative showcasing how India fights a modern war. The 2026 parade will integrate live operational themes with cutting‑edge weapon systems and a record aerial display.

Operation Sindoor, launched against Pakistan in May of last year following the Pahalgam terror attack, will showcase the storyline for the military segment such as reconnaissance, precision strikes and air‑defence response. The defence ministry has stamped it as a move to help citizens understand real‑world joint operations, rather than just viewing battle equipment roll past.

The narrative will showcase intelligence gathering, long‑range missile and air strikes, and India’s multi-layered air‑defence grid to check the retaliatory drone and missile attacks during the operation. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will display a dedicated “Operation Sindoor” formation to illustrate integrated air power and counter‑drone tactics.

On the other hand, the mechanized columns will feature platforms like BrahMos and Akash missile systems, ATAGS and Dhanush artillery, T‑90 and Arjun tanks, BMP‑II infantry vehicles, Nag missile‑equipped NAMIS‑II, besides new high‑mobility reconnaissance vehicles and unmanned systems. Strike vehicles with robotic mules, drone swarms under “Drone Shakti”, and Glacier ATVs will underline the focus on technology and mobility.

Seven Army marching contingents including Rajput Regiment, Assam Regiment, JAK LI among others will participate. This besides, the newly raised Bhairav light commando battalion making its debut. An animal contingent featuring Zanskar ponies, Bactrian camels and service dogs with handlers will highlight logistics and patrolling capabilities in extreme terrain.

A 29‑aircraft flypast will also bring together Rafale, Su‑30, MiG‑29, P‑8I, C‑295 transporters, Apache attack helicopters, LCH, ALH and Mi‑17s in various combat formations over Kartavya Path.

Around 2,500 artists will participate in a cultural performance celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram and the theme of Atmanirbhar Bharat, interwoven with the military presentation. European Council president Antonio Costa and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen will attend as chief guests.
