New Delhi: India has strongly denounced an act of trespassing and vandalism at its embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, attributing it to “anti-India elements”. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) labeled the incident a clear violation of the Vienna Convention.
The MEA issued a firm statement on Thursday confirming that unidentified individuals breached the embassy compound. Reports indicate the perpetrators removed the Indian national flag and made a bid to hoist a Khalistan flag, an action linked to the proscribed group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). Social media videos circulated by SFJ marked the vandalism as a protest ahead of India’s Republic Day on January 26.
India promptly raised the matter with Croatian authorities in both New Delhi and Zagreb, demanding swift action to hold the culprits accountable. “Such actions speak of the character and motives of those behind them,” the MEA asserted, urging global law enforcement to take note. This episode underscores ongoing challenges faced by Indian missions abroad amid separatist activities.
