Bhubaneswar: Odisha were bowled out for a paltry 148, thereby conceding a substantial lead of 138 runs in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A contest against Tamil Nadu on Friday.
The home team mopped up Tamil Nadu’s tail quickly on the second morning, with medium-pacers Debabrata Pradhan (3/37) and Rajesh Mohanty (3/51) picking up the last three wickets for the addition of just 5 runs at KIIT Stadium.
But then Odisha batters came unstuck against the Tamil Nadu pacers.
Sonu Yadav ran amok, claiming four wickets in his first five overs, as Odisha were left stuttering at 21/5 in 10.2 overs.
Six overs later, the scoreboard read 43/6, as the top five contributed 20 runs in all.
Anil Parida and Sambit Baral then showed a stomach for a fight, taking the total to 100. Parida kept fighting with the lower order batters, and Odisha eventually managed 148 in reply to the visitors’ 286.
The 25-year-old Parida, maintained his remarkable consistency since making his first-class debut earlier this season. He top-scored for the team once again with a disciplined 56, following scores of unbeaten 118 on debut, 8 and 99 not out.
Besides contributing 36 with the bat, allrounder Sambit Baral got rid of Tamil Nadu opener Narayan Jagadeesan at the end of the day as Tamil Nadu reached 26/1 in their second innings at stumps on the second day.
