Bhadrak: A hit-and-run accident claimed lives of two motorcycle riders on Basudevpur–Dhamara Road in Odisha’s Bhadrak district late Monday night, sparking outrage over road safety amid repeated mishaps on the stretch.
The deceased have been identified as Deepak Rout and Chinmay Mallick, both residents of Jajpur district and employed as JCB operators.
According to sources, the duo was struck by a speeding vehicle at Parapokhari square while traveling toward Basudevpur after work. Both riders sustained severe injuries in the crash. Locals along with Kasia Marine Police helped shift the victims to Community Health Centre (CMC) at Basudevpur, where doctors declared them dead.
The bodies were later sent for postmortem.
Marine police have begun an investigation and efforts are underway to trace the vehicle involved in the accident.
