Bhubaneswar: The morning sun struggled to pierce through a thick blanket of fog, which shrouded coastal Odisha on Thursday morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense fog engulfed Chandbali, Paradip, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada, reducing visibility to 50-200 metres. While moderate fog occurred in Parlakhemundi, shallow fog was seen in Bhubaneswar, Baripada, Bhawanipatna and Rourkela.
Meanwhile, dense fog warning continues for districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Bhadrak till January 30 morning and Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Kendrapada during the subsequent 24 hours. There is no large change in the minimum temperature during the next 6-7 days, it added.
In the last 24 hours, mercury levels were above normal by about 2-3°C at a few places in North Coastal Odisha and Interior Odisha, appreciably above normal by about 3-5°C at a few places in North Interior Odisha and normal in remaining districts of Odisha.
The state has been witnessing a rise in day and night temperatures over the last few days after a prolonged cold spell. The minimum temperature rose to 16.8°C on January 29 morning in Bhubaneswar, which had recorded 16.6°C the previous day. The city had recorded below normal temperatures of 14.6°C on January 27, 14.5°C on January 26 and 13.4°C on January 27. Similarly, Cuttack recorded 15.6°C compared to 14.6°C on January 28 and 13.6°C on January 27.
G Udayagiri was the coldest at 6.8°C. The only other place which recorded temperature below 10°C was Semiliguda in Koraput at 9.6°C.
