Moscow: Russia has urged the United States and Iran to pursue negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme, while sternly warning that any military action would plunge the Middle East into chaos with grave consequences.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov’s remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump called for Iran to return to talks or face strikes.
“We continue urging all parties to exercise restraint and reject force as a conflict solution. The potential for dialogue remains untapped. Aggression would breed regional disorder and extremely dangerous outcomes for overall security,” Peskov told reporters.
Trump, addressing Iran’s post-2025 unrest and nuclear advances, stated on Wednesday: “Negotiate now or risk US military action.”
This echoes June 2025 strikes amid protests, heightening fears of escalation with US warships nearing the Persian Gulf.
Moscow, Iran’s key ally since the Ukraine war, signed a 20-year strategic pact in January 2025, boosting arms and drone ties.
Peskov prioritised “negotiation frameworks,” aligning with Iran’s vows of “painful retaliation” and readiness for deals sans threats.
Russia’s plea fits its de-escalation push, slamming prior US “interference” as “unacceptable.”
