Raipur: Security forces recovered the body of a Maoist cadre along with an AK-47 rifle following an encounter in the dense forests of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, early Thursday morning.
According to reports, gunfight erupted around 7.30 am in the Chinnagellur-Tarrem area after joint teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), CoBRA, and Special Task Force (STF) launched a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of armed Maoist cadres.
The joint team acted on intelligence about the presence of Dilip Bedja, a Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) of the Maoist National Park Area Committee, along with other armed cadres in the area, Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav was quoted as saying.
The slain Maoist has been identified as Udham Singh, a commander and DVCM associated with Platoon No. 30 of the outfit. He was regarded as an active ground-level operative, the TOI reported.
The encounter is part of intensified anti-Maoist operations in the Bastar region as authorities push toward eliminating Left-wing extremism by March 31.
