Washington: US President Donald Trump has declared that a change in power in the Islamic Republic of Iran “would be the best thing that could happen,” according to various media reports.
Trump reportedly made the comments on Friday after his visit to troops at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and in response to questions from reporters about whether he wanted regime change in Iran. “It seems like that would be the best thing that could happen,” he said, referring to the possibility of toppling Iran’s clerical leadership. He declined to specify who should replace the current government, stating only that “there are people.”
The remarks came as the Trump administration weighs how to respond to ongoing disputes over Tehran’s nuclear program and regional activities, including support for groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. While Trump has maintained that halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions is a top priority, his call for a change of power marks a more direct endorsement of regime change than previous US officials have publicly offered.
Meanwhile, the US armed forces were bracing for a possible operation against Tehran which could last for weeks in case Trump orders an attack, Reuters reported citing two US officials. If that happenes, the conflict between the two nations could take a far worse shape than seen before.
“For 47 years, they’ve been talking and talking and talking. In the meantime, we’ve lost a lot of lives while they talk. Let’s see what happens. In the meantime, tremendous power has arrived and additional power, as you know, and other carriers are going out shortly. So we’ll see it out. Get it settled for once and for all, and that’ll be good,” Trump said while talking to the press, reported the Hindustan Times.
“Second aircraft carrier group heading towards Middle East…”
He called Iran “difficult to deal with.” Trump said that the US had deployed a very big carrier group to Iran. “I would love to see if we could make a deal. They’ve been difficult to make a deal with. I thought we would have had a deal last time. They wish they did and that’s what we did, Midnight Hammer,” he said, ANI.
On Friday, Trump also said that a second aircraft carrier group would soon be heading towards the Middle East. He also confirmed the reports of the movement of USS Gerald R. Ford, possibly the world’s largest aircraft carrier, from the Caribbean to the Middle East by saying, “It’ll be leaving very shortly.”
