Dhaka: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent a bouquet of flowers and sweets to Tarique Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), following his party’s decisive victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.

The floral greetings and sweets were delivered on Saturday evening to Rahman’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, where BNP Media Cell member Atiqur Rahman Ruman received them, Bangladesh’s state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.

Mehedul Islam Mehedi, a special officer at the office, was also present.

Banerjee had earlier extended her congratulations via a post on X (formerly Twitter), addressing Rahman as “Tarique-Bhai” and offering warm wishes to the people of Bangladesh. In her message, she also conveyed an advance Ramazan Mubarak to the nation and expressed hope that relations between India and Bangladesh would remain cordial and friendly.

“My hearty congratulations, Shubhonandan, to all my brothers and sisters, all the people in Bangladesh. My advance Ramazan mubarak to all of them. For this great victory, my congratulations to my Tarique-Bhai, his party, and all the parties. Pray, you all be well and happy,” she wrote.

The 13th parliamentary election, held on Thursday, resulted in a sweeping win for the BNP and its allies, securing a majority of seats in the Jatiya Sangsad. Newly elected members are scheduled to take their oaths later this week.
