Bhubaneswar: Two separate accidents claimed three lives and left six people injured in Odisha’s Rayagad and Keonjhar districts, respectively, on Tuesday.

In Keonjhar, six persons, including two Class X students from Jhumpura Adarsha Vidyalaya who were en route to Kerala English Medium Public School to take their CBSE board examinations, were injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up on National Highway 20 near Rimuli under Champua police limits.

According to sources, a truck carrying iron rods swerved after colliding head-on with a car, carrying the students. A motorcycle right behind the car subsequently rammed into the scene. The students suffered minor injuries and were treated at Champua sub-divisional hospital before being discharged, allowing them to appear for their exams on schedule.

Police have detained the drivers involved and are questioning them as part of the ongoing probe into the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, three persons died after a motorcycle rammed into a parked tanker near Nataraj Petrol Pump under Tikiri police limits in Rayagada late on Monday evening. The accident took place when the victims, identified as 25-year-old Narendra Jodia, 14-year-old Umakanta Jodia, and 23-year-old Tunu Jodia, were reportedly traveling toward Gorakhpur. Tikiri police arrived at the spot and rushed the trio to Utkal Hospital in Ushapada where one among them was declared dead on arrival. The other two were referred to Rayagada district headquarters hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
