Rourkela: As the T20 World Cup 2026 grips cricket fans worldwide, police have intensified crackdown on illegal betting networks across Rourkela city on Wednesday and took at least five people into custody.
Sources said raids were carried out in several areas located under Plant Side, Udit Nagar, Raghunath Palli and Brahmani Tarang police limits, targeting residences of businessmen and individuals suspected of running betting rackets.
At least five people have been detained and are being questioned by the police. Several electronic gadgets and other articles were also seized during the operation.
According to police sources, at least 10 locations have been raided since early morning after receiving information about gambling dens being active for T20 world cup. The operations are part of a coordinated drive to curb gambling activities linked to the ongoing tournament.
