Mumbai: A day after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) blacklisted Aditya Dhar’s B62 Studios over repeated on-set violations, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned the production house for endangering the lives of crew members, technicians and labourers during the shoot of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’.

“Due to such gross negligence, every year several workers lose their lives, while many others suffer severe injuries caused by fires, electric shocks, and collapsing or unsafe sets. Tragic incidents at Goregaon Filmcity and other studios, where workers lost their lives due to fire and unsafe working conditions, remain painful reminders of the ongoing danger faced by film workers,” AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta said in a press note on Tuesday, while calling for strict accountability.

The shoot drew scrutiny from the BMC over repeated violations, including the use of flammable materials and two generator vans without any prior permissions. The civic body has reportedly proposed blacklisting the production house from seeking further permissions for shooting in the city and imposing a penalty of Rs 1 lakh, a move that AICWA has fully supported, arguing that no entity should be above the law when worker safety is at stake.

“Unfortunately, timely and strict action is rarely taken, which emboldens negligent production houses to continue risking the lives of innocent workers. When safety norms are ignored, thousands of workers are put in danger. In Mumbai alone, hundreds of shootings take place daily, and a majority of production houses fail to properly follow mandatory legal and safety requirements,” it noted.

According to reports, the BMC has also initiated action to forfeit the Rs 25,000 security deposit submitted for the permits. “Having received the clearances, the three applicants – Komal Pokhriyal, Nasir Khan and B62 production house – can no longer apply for shoot permissions with the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development CL website. On Tuesday, we will also be issuing notices to these three applicants informing of the action, and a copy of the notice will also be shared with the Maharashtra film cell and BMC’s Business Cell head,” a BMC official told The Indian Express.

‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, the sequel to the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal among others, is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19.
