Bhubaneswar: In a touching display of family support, a tribal man was spotted outside Sunapur High School in Odisha’s Koraput district, cradling his 20-month-old baby as his wife appeared for her Class 10 exam, which began on Thursday.
According to sources, the couple, belonging to the tribal community, traveled nearly 35 km on a motorcycle from Totaguda village for the exam which began at 9.30 this morning. The woman, identified as Kumari Disari, had to discontinue her studies after Class IX and married at age 22. Encouraged by her family, she resumed education later in life and is now determined to pass the Matriculation to secure an Anganwadi job and contribute to the household alongside her husband.
“After two years of marriage, my wife is appearing in the examination to secure a job. We covered 35 km on a bike to reach the examination centre, and it took us around one and a half hours,” he told the media.
Over 5.61 lakh students appeared for the Modern Indian Language (Odia) paper on the first day of annual High School Certificate (HSC) exams across 3,082 centres in the state under tight security arrangements. The exams are being conducted by the Board of Secondary Education and will continue till March 2.
