Bhubaneswar: A show-cause notice has been issued to the medical officer of Nuagaon community health centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district after a video surfaced, showing 20 women lying on the floor at the government facility following sterilisation surgery.
The incident occurred after a sterilisation camp held on Thursday at the facility.
“After learning that women who underwent sterilisation had to sleep on the floor, raising serious concerns over patient safety and violation of sterilisation norms, I ordered a probe and issued a show-cause notice to the medical officer,” Jagatsinghpur CDMO Dr Rajendra Kumar Panigrahi told the media.
In response to the notice, the CHC’s medical officer Dr Chidananda Panda explained that the camp was held amid ongoing renovation work at the facility, which limited the availability of beds. “It’s a minor surgery and all of them were discharged the same day. We will ensure such incidents do not recur and all sterilization rules are strictly followed,” he added.
