Mumbai: Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan’s highly-anticipated patriotic film ‘Lahore 1947’ may get a new title.
The filmmakers feel a better name will do justice to the film, which is based on the Partition.
“Lahore 1947 is based on the famous play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’. Since the film is set in the Pakistani city and during the Independence period, the title Lahore 1947 was initially deemed suitable. But now the makers feel that there can be a better title that is apt for the story of the film,” a source was quoted as saying by Bollywood Hungama.
“Accordingly, they have come up with a few options. Another round of meetings will happen with the stakeholders, and if all are on the same page, the name of the film will undergo a change,” the source added.
During an interview with Zoom earlier, Sunny shared how the idea of ‘Lahore 1947’ came up.
“It has been a subject Rajkumar Santoshi and I have been discussing over the years. We would keep trying to execute it,” the actor shared.
“Obviously, after Gadar, it became possible. Aamir came to me and said that he wants to make this project. Later, everything was a yes to me,” Sunny added.
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, it’s the first collaboration between Aamir, Sunny and Santoshi.
“The subject is very emotional. Rajkumar Santoshi and I have given three intense films. Lahore 1947 has intensity and depth in the characters. It is a play which has been adapted. Hopefully, we will try to release it as soon as possible,” Sunny continued.
Based on Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni’, the film revolves around a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore.
The film, which also features Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol in important roles, will be released on August 13, 2026.
