Bhubaneswar: Mounting a scathing attack on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday accused the opposition parties of staging ‘political drama’ in the name of farmers during discussion on state budget in the Assembly.
While replying to the 2026-27 debate on state budget in the Assembly, the Chief Minister alleged that the opposition parties are politicising farmers’ issues and staging protests for political gains.
In a stinging attack on BJD, Majhi claimed that the regional party will not be able to return to power for next 24 years in the state as people are happy over governance during the BJP government with a focus on development.
Accusing opposition parties of playing politics in the name of farmers, he alleged that opposition members disrupted proceedings in the House for political gain instead of acting as a responsible and constructive opposition.
Instead of raising genuine public issues, the opposition was creating disturbances and staging ‘political drama,’ the Chief Minister alleged.
Stating that the entire farming community was waiting for a discussion on their issues, Majhi claimed that the main opposition BJD is doing politics of condemnation in the name of farmers.
“Whatever discussions have been held in the House on the budget, I will give the government’s answer on all the views and suggestions that have come,” he said.
Regarding House adjournment earlier in the day, the CM said the opposition’s prolonged protest lacked valid grounds as they are simply trying to gain political mileage by unnecessarily raising the issue instead of working to safeguard the interests of the farmers.
Stressing that the government was ready for a discussion on farmers’ issues, Majhi said despite being given two opportunities through adjournment motions, the opposition did not participate in meaningful debate on the issue.
The opposition is not sincere about ensuring justice for farmers as their only motive is to derive on political advantage by raking up non-issues, the CM claimed.
