Sonepur: Railway authorities in Odisha’s Sonepur district seized Rs 2.69 lakh in cash along with 19 foreign currency notes from Dunguripali station after a suspicious youth abandoned his bag and fled the scene, officials informed on Wednesday.

According to sources, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) havildar approached a young man, sitting alone on the station premises with a bag, after he found his behaviour suspicious. The youth claimed he was waiting for Puri–Durg train to travel to Jhansi. However, as the interrogation continued, the individual suddenly fled the station, leaving the bag behind.

The havildar immediately alerted the Balangir RPF unit and the Dunguripali station master.

The RPF personnel soon arrived at the scene, searched the unattended bag, and seized Rs 2,69,774 in Indian currency along with 19 foreign currency notes from the UAE, Malaysia, China, and Thailand.

An investigation is underway to identify and locate the absconding youth while also tracing the source of the seized cash and currencies and links to any illegal activities or financial irregularities.
