Kabul: Afghanistan claims to have carried out strikes on military installations deep inside Pakistan, including the Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi.

Its air force carried out “precise and coordinated” strikes on multiple Pakistani military installations, Afghanistan’s defence ministry said on Monday and released photographs and a video.

The action was in response to recent Pakistani air incursions into Kabul and Bagram, Afghanistan said. Pakistan has not yet issued an official statement on the claims, as reported by The Economic Times.

The Pakistani military sites were allegedly hit in a single operation, the Afghan defence ministry posted on X. Apart from the Nur Khan air base, the 12th Division headquarters in Quetta (Balochistan), and the Khwazai Camp in Mohmand Agency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with “several other significant Pakistani military facilities and command centers” were hit, it has been claimed.

“Based on preliminary assessments, the strikes successfully caused significant damage to the intended targets. These operations were carried out in response to the recent aerial incursions by the Pakistani military, which struck Kabul, Bagram,” the ministry said.

Any further violations of Afghan airspace or “acts of aggression” by Pakistan would be met with “a swift, decisive, and proportionate response”, the statement warned.

The Nur Khan air base had previously come under attack during India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025. That strike had damaged facilities at the base, and repair and restoration work took months to complete.

Kabul’s claim comes within days of a sharp escalation between Afghanistan and Pakistan along their shared border, known as the Durand Line. Islamabad had declared “open war” on the Afghan Taliban government after renewed clashes between border forces.

On Friday, Pakistan conducted air strikes on Kabul and Kandahar, hours after Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops in retaliation to earlier bombing runs. The exchange has triggered a fast-moving cycle of retaliation between the two sides.

As of now, there has been no official word from Islamabad about the alleged strikes on its military installations.
