Bhubaneswar: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly killed his wife in a slum area of Bhubaneswar ahead of Holi celebrations.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Phuleswari Basti under the jurisdiction of Bharatpur police station of the city late on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sabitri Mallick while the name of the accused is Purna Chandra Mallick.
Sources said a heated argument ensued between the two late in the night over some family issue. In the midst of intense altercation, Purna allegedly attacked Sabitri with a sharp object in a fit of rage. The woman reportedly died on the spot.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the site, seized Sabitri’s body and sent it for postmortem. They also initiated an investigation into the matter.
The accused has been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
