Gorakhpur: A hit-and-run accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur claimed the life of a 22-year-old MBBS student on Wednesday night.
The crash occurred on the Mohaddipur-Kauwabagh Overbridge when a speeding black Toyota Fortuner SUV, driving on the wrong side of the road, rammed into a group of bikers. Four people were hit in the collision. Akash Pandey, a third-year MBBS student at BRD Medical College, had gone to a friend’s place for Holi celebrations and was returning to his hostel after dinner at night. He died on the spot.
According to police reports, the impact of the crash was so severe that Pandey was flung approximately 15 metres, causing his body to strike the overbridge railing. He was left suspended on the railing for about 30 minutes before help arrived.
Two others were also seriously injured in the accident.
Police later traced the SUV driver, identified as property dealer Golden Sahni, using CCTV footage and the vehicle’s registration number and arrested him. The vehicle has been seized, and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the accused, India Today reported, quoting the police.
