Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Sunday disbursed over Rs 5,100 crore as the fourth instalment for 1.02 crore women beneficiaries of the state’s flagship Subhadra Yojana at an event organised to celebrate International Women’s Day in Odisha’s Puri.

An amount Rs 5,000 was credited to the bank accounts of eligible women who had already received the same amount in the previous three instalments. Additionally, under the second instalment cycle, benefits were extended to 2.13 lakh new beneficiaries, including ‘Yuva Subhadra’(women who have turned 21), and 36,385 women included through the grievance redressal mechanism.

Speaking on the occasion, Majhi said the scheme has enabled women to achieve financial independence and establish a distinct identity in society. “The Subhadra Yojana has made women self-reliant by providing them with direct financial support,” he stated, emphasising that this empowerment is accelerating Odisha’s journey toward becoming a prosperous and developed ‘Viksit’ state.

While more than Rs 15,000 crore has already been transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, another Rs 5,106.33 crore has been disbursed to the bank accounts of 1.02 crore women beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer (DBT), the CM said.

“Those who are criticising the scheme should know that this money will go to the market of the state, it will go to small traders, artists who are producing small items, and to the state’s economy as it will enhance the buying power in many households,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said disbursement of over Rs 20,000 crore under the scheme underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the women of Odisha.

Under the Subhadra Yojana, launched in the state by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024, women in the age group of 21-60 years will receive Rs 50,000 each over a five-year period.
