Kolkata: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar had to face black flags when he visited the Kalighat temple in Kolkata on Monday. Police had to intervene to pacify the situation and manage the crowd.

Demonstrators had gathered near the temple. They chanted ‘go back’ slogans and showed showed black flags. Cops ensured that the CEC’s safety is not compromised as he entered the temple.

Despite the protest, Kumar offered prayers at the temple. Briefly addressing reporters, he extended greetings to the people of Bengal. “My greetings to the brothers and sisters of West Bengal. May Goddess Kali bless everyone,” he said

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar faced protests and was shown black flags during a visit to the Kalighat temple in south Kolkata on Monday morning, with police stepping in to control the situation and ensure his programme continued as scheduled.

Police personnel present at the spot brought the situation under control, allowing the CEC to proceed with his visit to the temple.

On Sunday, he faced similar stir near the Kolkata airport. As he reached the city amid tensions over Special Intensive Revision (SIR), TMC workers shouted ‘go back’ as his convoy left the airport and passed through areas near the airport.

The activists from Left parties also staged stir outside airport.
