Bhubaneswar: The 67th Tibetan National Uprising Day was commemorated across the world on March 10.
In Odisha’s Gajapati, the Tibetan refugee settlement ‘Phuntsokling – The Land of Happiness and Plenty’, with a population of 1267, marked the day to honour the sacrifices of Tibetans who wanted a free Tibet. They protested in Lhasa against the illegal invasion by People’s Republic of China (PRC) to safeguard the the 14th Dalai Lama from imminent threat.
The programme began with the singing of National Anthems of Tibet and India, followed by prayers and speeches from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) in honour of the brave Tibetans who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and cause of Tibet.
The CTA paid deep tributes to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of Tibet and stood in “unwavering solidarity with the brothers and sisters inside Tibet, whose resolve to preserve our distinct national identity remains as unyielding as Mount Meru.”
The Regional Tibetan Women’s Association and Regional Tibetan Youth Congress organised a peaceful solidarity march from the Settlement office to Chandragiri market. The event concluded with prayers dedicated to the well-being of all sentient beings, reflecting the Tibetan spirit of compassion, unity and the continued aspiration for peace and justice for Tibet.
